Special Equipment - Ranged Weapons

Repeating Crossbow

On the battlefields of the Eberron World War, the repeating crossbow is a ubiquitous weapon. Most every grunt (i.e. minion) your player character will encounter is going to be armed with a repeating crossbow.

House Rule: A repeating crossbow’s magazine requires a move action (instead of a standard action) to reload.

Heavy Crossbow

Some grunts prefer a heavy crossbow, for greater range and damage. (Note, the standard crossbow given in the Player’s Handbook is referred to as a light crossbow, in this campaign.) A heavy crossbow has the same specs as a superior crossbow, as given in the Adventurer’s Vault; however, a heavy crossbow is a simple two-handed ranged weapon (instead of a superior one), and it requires a move action to reload (instead of a minor action).

DragonFire Ranged Weapons

As a member of a DragonFire team, you are given (your choice) one of the following +2 ranged weapons. Note, you must be proficient with the weapon category of your chosen ranged weapon, to wield it.

Xbow 01

+2 Swiftshot Repeating Crossbow
Category: Simple two-handed ranged weapon
Usage: This is the ranged weapon preferred by DragonFire clerics, paladins, warlocks, and warlords; that is, those classes whose ranged weapon usage is restricted to the simple ones. Note, this crossbow holds a magazine containing 10 shots, and it requires a move action to reload a magazine.
Range: 10/20
Proficient Bonus: +2
Damage: 1d8
Critical: +2d6 damage
Swiftshot. Encounter Power. Minor action. Make a ranged basic attack with this weapon.

+2 Thunderburst Heavy Crossbow
Category: Simple two-handed ranged weapon
Usage: This is an alternative to the +2 Swiftshot Repeating Crossbow. It is preferred by a DragonFire team member who wants to inflict heavy damage on multiple targets, with a single shot. Note, this is a heavy crossbow, which holds only one shot and requires a move action to reload.
Range: 20/40
Proficient Bonus: +3
Damage: 1d10
Critical: +2d6 thunder damage
Thunderburst Shot. Encounter Power. Minor Action. The next ranged basic attack you make with this weapon, before the end of your turn, becomes a burst 1 centered on the target. Use your normal attack bonus for the basic attack, but against the target’s Fortitude. Each target you hit takes thunder damage equal to the normal damage you would deal with a ranged basic attack with this weapon.

+2 Boltshard Hand Crossbow
Category: Simple one-handed ranged weapon
Usage: This is the ranged weapon preferred by a DragonFire team member who tends to quickly close with and assault the enemy. It is also the ranged weapon preferred by DragonFire rogues. Note, a hand crossbow holds only one shot and requires a minor action to reload.
Range: 10/20
Proficient Bonus: +2
Damage: 1d6
Critical: +1d6 damage
Boltshard Blast. Encounter Power. Standard Action. Make a ranged basic attack using this crossbow against each creature in a close blast 3.

+2 Lightning Longbow
Category: Military two-handed ranged weapon
Usage: This is the ranged weapon preferred by DragonFire elves, as well as by other team members who prefer a longbow over a crossbow.
Range: 20/40
Proficient Bonus: +2
Damage: 1d10
Critical: +2d6 lightning damage
Lightning Shot. Encounter Power. Free Action. Use this power when you hit with this longbow. Your target and each enemy within 2 squares of your target each take 1d6 lightning damage.

+2 Inescapable Greatbow
Category: Superior two-handed ranged weapon
Usage: This is the ranged weapon preferred by a DragonFire member who tends to play a sniper’s role. However, this ranged weapon requires you to spend a feat to be proficient with it.
Range: 25/50
Proficient Bonus: +2
Damage: 1d12
Critical: +2d6 damage
Property: Each time you miss your target with this weapon, you gain a cumulative +1 bonus (up to +2, the weapon’s enhancement bonus) to your next attack roll with this weapon against that same target. This bonus ends when you hit or if you attack a different target.
